Yes, by rising yourself to a higher level of consciousness through awareness of your self as one beyond the perception of the 5 senses of the body.By chanting "Soham"meaning 'I am That'.
Suppression is forced control & gratification is addiction .Both are binding.Awareness is the best indeed,by observing as you would another w/o self involvement.
Yoga is basically classified as:
1.Jyana yoga(knowledge)for the thinker
2.Bhakti yoga(devotion)for the sensitive/emotional
3.Karmayoga(action)for the extrovert
4.Raja yoga(8 fold path)for the all rounder
The most preffered one is the last one also known as Ashtanga yoga which includes all the rest.
I suggest you follow these mental techniques:
1.Pratipksha Bhavana - inculcating opposite feelings to overcome negative emotions.
2.Anitya Bhavana - contemplating on the changing nature of this world .
3.Nispanda Bhava - motionless witness still attitude .
Practise of the above 3 will help you rise above the sense plane.

The purpose of yoga is not to supress the senses or overcome them by force. Temporarily that may work, but that is an unnatural situation. Indulgence in sense gratification simply leads to addiction and ignorance. The best path is to engage the senses in the service of the Supreme Lord.
One of the many names of the Lord is Hrsikesa which means He is the master of all the senses. This means that the Lord is the original source of all sense objects, the material elements through which we hope to enjoy sense pleasures, and He is the source of our bodies (senses) and minds. As the source of it all, He is naturally the master also because the energetic is the master of the energy. We also become master of our senses and sense desires when we engage them in serving the desires of the master of all the senses, Hrsikesa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. This is called in Sanskrit, bhakti-yoga.
We are the spiritual energy of the Supreme Lord and we have our eternal senses which are now covered by the gross and subtle senses of the temporary material body and mind. Our constitutional position is to serve the Lord in pure devotional service with our purified (uncovered) senses. Devotional service is full of variety and is full of happiness in love due to the perfect knowledge of the spirit soul's eternal nature and his relationship with the Lord. This is awareness of the highest order, beyond the intermediate steps of Brahman , realization of the aura of the Lord, and Paramatma, realization of the localized feature of the Lord that pervades the material world.
