1. Lawrence Livermore Labs, a contractor to the DOE, owns it.
2. Linpack is the measuring tool that measures the speed of the top 500 computers in the world.
3. All the supercomputers run 'Nix's like Linux, Unix clone BSD...
4. Maybe that is one more reason that Microsfot.com, Hotmail.com, and MSN.com run on 45,000 Linux computers?
I run Linux. http://pclinuxos.com has 1900 games, programs, on the LiveCDrom! FREE! Upon install, your computer will run up to 50X faster, and have access to all 5331 games, program, files, Suites!

IBM had Big Blue but was put out of top by another until recently they have taken the title back.
There are fast computers...and ones that are designed for real world fast throughput of data.
The real world one in my book are more impressive because the fastest is just a title for bragging rights.
Wal-Mart has a computer system that is only outdone by a system in the Pentagon...the system has real time sales tracking...every sale is logged within fifteen minutes.
I have seen several real world computers...mostly working at the auto companies here in Detroit.
Daimler Chrysler headquarters in Auburn Hills,MI has a Cray super computer that serves CATIA design program worldwide...you don't want more than one version of a design floating around.
Also I've seen a Sun computer at Ford Motor Company that had such massive storage that the sound of the unit was really quite loud.
