I saw a question regarding spanking this morning. I am totally against spanking. but it got me to thinking about growing up in the 1960's when it was an acceptable form of punishment. I had to lay over a bed and get spanked on the bare behind with a belt. I am curious to know if there were others punished in this way, especially people over 40.

yes i was spanked that way i grew up in the 60s and no i do not think it is acceptable ! i think if our parents lived in the world we live in now they would be in trouble for abuse !remember it was the 60s and at that time it was acceptable

I was spanked with a belt by my mother and had the p i s s knocked outta me by my dad would would go berserk. I was taught not to respect. Most of my relatives that are my age were also spanked (some more severely) and they are NOT maladjusted and they do not abuse their children... they, like me, reason and punish. What my mother did was spank (yes, with a belt) and what my dad did would get him arrested today. Times change. Today, we have more behavioral problems in schools, and kids talk and yell back at their parents and disobey parents and teachers alike... go figure!
A few weeks ago, a kid was making a lot of noise at about 1:30 am in the halls. I opened and asked him to please keep the noise down. He cursed at me. I told him that I'd speak with his mother and he was so rude that I was tempted to see how long he could hold his breath! I smiled and asked him, "Would you speak like that to my grandson?" and he said, "Hell no!" and I asked, "And why not?" and he quickly responded, " 'Cause he'll kick my a s s!" What do you think of that?
I'm tired of the wrong people having children they have no control over. "He's only a child... what can I do?" (And will they ever learn? When will they learn unless you show them you're the parent?) I told a lady that what she SHOULD have done was use contraception! Really.
A good old fashioned spanking ain't gonna kill any kid. If the parents don't know how to administer a spanking, come and let ME show you how it's done! I never had to spank my daughter. I never yelled at her either. I merely reasoned with her and she is doing the same with her children. They respect! It is called being consistent, being fair and treating the child with respect.

I was spanked as were all of my 5 siblings. Think it's ok but there are better ways to do it than others. Belts were also used in our house, and anger was often the starting point of a spanking.
Anger and belts = abuse in my book.

spanking is OK but when people beat up their kids and hurt them that's different you can grow up fine being and not being spanked but i think some people get spanked mixed u with child abuse. if you if a little smack on the bum that's OK but if you beat your kids until they need hospital help you need therapy. i got smacked and nothing is wrong with . but spanking might not work for everyone and you have to consider the situation . it's not wrong but it's like alcohol, in moderation. and i'm under 40, way under.

Yes,I got smacked on the back of the legs.It did'nt hurt much,but what hurt much more was the look of disappointment on my parents faces. There was also those God - fearing words..."You just wait until your dad gets home from work." The wait far out-weighed the punishment. When I see new - age parents trying to talk their kids into behaving,I just think "Smack 'em" ! Sorry,but that's the way I feel

Well i am not over 40, i'm 28 and i was paddled... i went to a Baptist school where they had paddleing and one time i was got 23 swats on the backside... was black and blue for 3 days.... needless to say when i hear someone say they had the ruler to to the knuckles i tell them some of my "stories"

spanking is not an evil thing in and of itself... spanking out of anger and to specifically inflict unnecessary pain is wrong. I spanked my daughter a (very) few times and only when other efforts failed. It worked.I was spanked and it was not detrimental to my personhood.

I am only 36,but if i didn't get a spankin' every day,i would have thought my daddy didn't love me anymore.I was a rebel child,and had it coming.But to answer your question,I do not believe in it.Matter of fact, i put a boot in my sons behind for whippin' my 2 year old granddaughters butt.Sometimes it is necessary.

I am not over 40 but I got whippings from both parents.
