Will any good college take that person? What can they do (if they're in their junior year) to mazimize their chances of getting into a good college? Note: didn't do sports/clubs all sophomore year, and parts of freshmen and junior year because of physical illness that prohibited such by doctor's orders.

What can I do to maximize my chances of being accepted by an Ivy League school?

Am I totally screwed because I don't have any extra curriculars (up until 11th), even though I couldn't do any, and only 1 sport?

If you are smart enough to get these grades, then you are smart enough to read through all the college materials on line and you will realize that of the 2000 colleges in the US, only about 100 accept less than 50% of their applicants. There are dozens of really good schools that will accept you.

I am worried about you, This level of obsession is unhealthy. You might get into college, but will you have the emotional and mental stability to survive, or will you become one of the very sad statistics about drops outs or (Heaven forbid) suicides.

You need to relax, enjoy school a little more. Get out with your friends and not obsess so much. THings will work out fine, you will get into a good school and have a good career. Mental health is going to be just as important in your college career as learning an extra 1000 German vocabulary words!

ps SAT scores are NOT the main thing in admissions - ask any College admissions officer.... and every admissions officer knows that essays are often purchased or written by parents... so they count for almost nothing. The main criterion for admission is your transcript.

SAT scores are the primary determinant for acceptance followed closely by your essay. If you have great scores and a really good essay then the extracurricular activities begin to become important. Demographics are also important. Be sure to apply to schools as far away from your residence as possible. Competition is very tough right now because more people are going to college than ever before and even though all we read about is how terrible public education is there are a lot of very well educated high school students entering college. A 1600 on your SAT test would ensure at least one good school would take you. Good luck.......and remember the community college is a great safety net for anyone wanting a college education.

There are a lot of "good" schools that should accept you with those credentials. However, if you are looking at the Ivy League schools, then your chances are slim. In order to maximize your chances, make sure to thoroughly study for the ACT and SAT. You will want to have good test scores to secure your admission. I would also suggest getting some good letters of recommendation from at least 3 of your teachers - preferably those who taught the AP and Honors courses. If possible, schedule an interview with admissions officers to your top pick schools. If they meet you in person, that could help your chances.

Good luck!

You need a higher SAT score. I got 2 perfect scores in math and reading, but my writing score was only 720, for a total of 2320. I only read this SAT guide, and that is how I got such high scores:

I recommend this guide to anyone seeking to get a higher score to get into a first choice college.
