3/8x-1/3x=1/12
[(3*(3)x - 1*(8)x / 24] = 1/12
(9x -8x)/24 = 1/12
x /24 = 1/12
x*12 = 24 *1
12x = 24
x = 24/12
x = 2
Good Luck

Assuming you mean(3/8)x-(1/3)x=1/12 then:
the common denominator for 1/8,1/3 and 1/12 is
1/24 so multiply thru by 24. This gives
9x-8x=2
x=2
But if I take your equation literally it's
3/(8x)-1/(3x)=1/12 (you have to watch those parenthesis ),
then mult. thru by 24x giving
9-8=2x
x=1/2 See what the parens or lack thereof can do

(3/8)x - (1/3)x = (1/12)
Multiply everything by 24
9x - 8x = 2
x = 2

3 / 8x - 1 / 3x = 1 / 12
9 - 8 / 24x = 1 / 12
1 / 24x = 1 / 12
12 / 24x = 1
1 / 2x = 1
2x = 1
x = 1 / 2

3/8x - 1/3x = 1/12
(9x-8x)/24x^2 = 1/12
12x = 24x^2
12 = 24x
x = 12/24 = 1/2
Ans: x = 1/2
Hope I get the 10 points i deserve

3/8x-1/3x=1/12
3/8-1/3=x/12
x = 12*(3/8-1/3)
x = 36/8 - 12/3
x = (36*3 - 12*8)/(8*3)
x = (108 - 96)/24
x = 12/24
x = 0.5

Multiplying both sides of the equation by 24, we obtain:
9x - 8x = 2
Or, x = 2
