This has been bothering me ever since my father died in 1985. He died just a couple of hours after my birthday. That night, even though it was calm and quiet, I heard a kind of whistling noise outside the house. The atmosphere was heavy and sad; after we went away, then came back again several days later, the heaviness had lifted. Can anyone explain this for me, please?

The noise you heard could have been your father letting you know he was still around.
The heavy feeling/atmosphere was your feelings, some time's when something awful happens, like death, you feel a weight in the air.

It would require more Detail.
Did the body lie in state at your home ?
Was it at a funeral parlour ?
Did your Father die suddenly or after a protracted illness ?
In any case; If life were just a series of blood vessels and meat, it would be nothing - it need's some form of Life Force ( spirit ) ; Energy to make it vital. Otherwise chopping off a finger or two would weaken your Soul, instead of just making it harder to play a piano !
So when such a Life Force depart's it's physical framework - it would seem quite understandable that it would displace the energy field's about it,on a physical plain too.
In Dreams, Death signifies a new beginning.
Maybe that is also true in life/Death and the Evolution of the Soul.

Personally, I believe it was your Dad's spirit. Had he been ill for a long time or did he die suddenly? the house you refer to....was it the house where he had lived or one where you resided at the time. Was there strife in his life at that location? did he die without resolving any issues....who else lived in the house with you? It may have been a sign of comfort for you or a reminder to respect your sorrow. Not knowing you or all the circumstances, it's impossible to answer your question. It is apparent that you are still in a realm of grief and I hope you can find the pathway to enlightenment to put your own soul as ease. Embrace your father's passing and know that he is with you always.....a guardian angel......allow that to be the blessing it is meant to be. I could go on ad infinitum about this having experienced similar occurrences when my Dad passed in 1978 and again last November when my Mom crossed over into to the Hereafter. Check out the website listed below...I found it interesting...also just type in "superstitions" in the search bar and you'll have a plethora of places to learn and discover many things you did not know!

I think people will always`s associate weird thing`s that happen around them, at the time when a loved one die`s,

My mother died 8 years ago.........on the day, there was a distinct smell of lavender wafting around the house.

The smell was not constant, just here and there,

I thought, at the time, because i`ve heard of sweet aroma`s associated with death, that it was dear old mum, saying her last goodbye`s to us all.

I stayed with this thought, for along time and told friends and family..........it was very comforting,

But, the reality was as follows:
I live in a block of flat`s, and there is a waste disposal shoot near-by, and i later found out that the cleaner`s of the estate, were using a new perfumed anti-septic, to wash the shoot out.....it was this i had detected, not, I`m afraid, dear old mum.

Not very romantic, but the truth!

There are alot of story`s, about weird stuff happening to people
at the time a loved one passes away, But, you have to be realistic,

In my case, i`d prefer that she visited me, to say the last good bye, but, unfortunately there was a completely normal explanation.

My dad died over a year ago, and i know whenever he is around because i get this intense whistling/ringing in my ears and my whole body feels electrical, like i'm standing infront of a static t.v screen. I can't explain it , i just KNOW it's him. I think we all feel strange different things everyday and pay no notice most of the time, dismissing it as our imagination, but i take notice of these feelings now. Deep down you know what you think about it, i believe our intuitions are always right.

MAybe the time made you come to terms with what happened. As for the whistling, perhaps a slight wind?
