he was probably very very overwhelmed.

think about. if you were president. you had all these obligations to do. and then suddenly you hear "uh... sir, 2 planes just hit the world trade center." how would you feel???

i think what he did was TOTALLY understandable.

plus, he doesn't want to jump out of his seat and say "the US is under attack!" and scare a bajillion people. he's supposed to stay calm and not go bazonkers.

I don't think jumping out of his skin in front of a school room full of children would have done anything but frighten folks. I also don't think that there is any 'standard' way of reacting to the event.
I wasn't the president of the United States during 9/11, but I was in a leadership position that morning. I remember hearing the news from my commander as it was happening. I froze -- I never freeze. I didnt know what to think, or how to react. It was about 5 minutes until it all soaked in. And I informed my subordinates of the event. I personally thought it was the end of the world.

I wish you Europeans would get a grip on reality here. There is NO conspiracy theory. Our country was attacked. Our president was in shock, he did not know how to respond. It was new territory for him. What would have happened if he jumped up and said OH **** - he would have scared the heck out of those kids. His advisors were on top of it and once the second plane hit, he took control. For God's sake - he is the strongest leader in the world, could whoop your leaders *** - so I strongly suggest you stop this nonsense. Let it go. He did what he had to do. He stepped up to the plate and he is still there protecting the greatest country in the world - we love him and do not appreciate this nonsense you Europeans spew on about him. Be careful...

We weren't sure we were under attack until the 2nd plane hit. And what would have changed if he jumped up and ran out of the school room...scaring kids, parents, and teachers along the way? Nothing. Events were already under way...and over and done in less than an hour.

What good would jumping out of his seat and frightening everyone have done? He knew his staff and the military were doing what they could. If he had done anything else he would still be criticized, not to mention give the terrorist the reaction they were looking for. Have you ever heard the expression: cool under fire?

Kerry might have panicked? Thank God he was denied the opportunity.

Ummm...This all came out afterwords. That when the first plane struck that was all the President was told. Second, after the second plane struck and the Commander-in-Chief was told he did get up and leave. As for what he was thinking, probably, OMG, what a tragedy!

He probably realized that if he jumped up and ran out of there to deal with the problem, he would have caused a panic. So, he acted like nothing was wrong, and then left to deal with it later. After all, if he HAD jumped up and ran out of there, what difference would it have really made? Not much.

Saz17 has the most probable scenario. I, too, believe George W. Bush knew such a 'terrorist' had been discussed, and when it actually happened, he was stunned. Why? Because his handlers deliberately hadn't prepared him for such news; he had not been coached on how to act or what to say. The nameless, faceless powers that pull Bush's puppet strings didn't want to risk the President giving away their dastardly deed.
Bush couldn't believe "they" actually bombed the World Trade Center twin towers. But his dim-witted mind had been molded to "understand" why they had to do it, even if it mean murdering innocent Americans and blaming his good friend Osama binLaden for the attack. These plans had been executed down to the most minute detail, and Bush's stupidity couldn't be allowed to give it away. The less Bush knew the better. This had to be done as a prerequisite toward declaring "war' on Iraq. And 'war' with Iraq was necessary for two reasons: 1) to 'settle the score' and finish the Bush family's personal vendetta against Hussein; and 2) because Dick Cheney wants all that OIL swimming underneath Iraq's sands so his Exxon-Mobil buddies can get richer and richer and richer.

PREDICTION: Until Cheney has a rock-solid, iron-clad arrangement in place to acquire all of Iraq's OIL, there will be NO TROOP WITHDRAWALS from Iraq. We'll be there for decades - that's why we're building the largest embassy in the world on a 104-acre plot of prime land in downtown Baghdad.

ANOTHER PREDICTION: As soon as the Bush handlers can come up with a plausible excuse that most conservative ditto heads will "buy", the U.S. WILL INVADE IRAN. Why? For the very same reason: rich fields of easily-accessible OIL.

A FINAL PREDICTION: If it appears that the Democrats might win by a landslide in the 2008 Presidential election, the Bush power brokers will fabricate another 'terrorist attack' on U.S. soil, kill a few thousand more people, and order Bush to declare martial law, claiming that it would not be in the best interests of national security to change administrations.

While Americans concern themselves over $3.00-per-gallon gasoline, Britney Spears' love life, and the latest rankings of their favorite football teams, American politicians have taken over our government for the personal enrichment and benefit of lobbyists, wealthy elitists, special interest groups, and big business. As long as we allow these scumbags to suck off the taxpayers' teat, nothing will change. America will continue to fight its way into a downward spiral of self-destruction. -RKO-
