Of course they can be! There's nothing wrong with chats between different genders, and the friendliness of the conversation isn't necessarily reflected in the time of day.
I've talked to guys late at night on instant messaging, and all of them are friendly - mainly because I wouldn't talk to people I don't know at that time, just for politeness.

Why not ? Why to doubt anyone unnecessarily. Believe me, there's still some honest ppl.around existing. It's not worth kidding anyone these days as ppl. have become smarter than ever before. Otherwise, such things depends on every individuals attitude. Need V not bother about ppl. in general. There's no harm & it's not a kind of offence in making some good friends to share views. C'mon, B a good friend & B honest. A sincere friendship's what I feel's the best.

A man and a woman can chat friendly whatever the hour of the day. As for how platonic it may be is relative to what their state of mind might be.
I've had absolutely friendly cool conversations with several men at all hours of the night :)

I think so cause if your just kidding with each other why would you spend that much time if theres no honesty or friendliness to it ,both of you are nuts if your just playing games with each other
