Wow, you live on the edge, don't you? People don't just get violent felonies. It's hard to get someone else charged with MISDEMEANORS when they steal and tear up your van and go joyriding and give away your baby's car seat and belongings, the car repair items in the back, cds and cd player, SEATS, etc. Those kind of thugs are more likely to be stuck in an anger management course with an essay to write.... Even though they're part of a gang that's been harassing your family for a couple weeks after accidentally seeing them evidently AFTER they committed a crime, but not during. Fools.
Ever notice how criminals project this aura of thinking the world revolves around themselves? Like they think everyone notices them or should?
That was an aside.... So you must've done something PRETTY BIG before or have a really *nice* attitude. Sorry if I have a bias already formed from what someone did to my family one time and how much they got away with. They never even had to pay the $200+ to replace our steering column. That was like a penny to those thugs.
Okay. I guess not ALL people charged with prior felonies are "thugs" and it is possible one who is charged with one for assaulting an officer NOW may be telling the truth when s/he says s/he didn't assault the officer. But what's going on is, this officer and all the others involved in the case have biases to overcome (your past) before they'll consider the possibility that the officer either misunderstood, jumped the gun, or is a big fat LIAR. I'd say remain calm at all times, project an aura of calmness. Do not act aloof like you don't care about anything. Act like this really bothers you and makes you anxious and worried, but try to act peacable and rational too. If they get in your face and yell at you, just sit there, tune it out if you have to in order to avoid yelling back. Wait for them to finish their tirade and then quietly state your case. Keep stating your case to whoever will listen and be respectful at all times.
I don't know what you should do, but that's what I would do if I ever got into a situation where I was being interviewed by police for something I did not do but they insisted I did.
Try to stay out of trouble in the future, okay?

Why does everyone say they don't do this when they do? You need to read the definition of assault on a police officer. If you grabbed his shirt, grabbed his arm, etc etc you're in deep do-do. Was he trying to arrest you when you fought back, trying to arrest one of your friends? If you want to add details I'll come back and add some more info for you, but you need to tell me what happened to cause the charge.
Since you have two priors the judge knows you know the system. BS'ing your way through this is not going to carry you on this one in court.

1) Get a lawyer. Do not wait. Do it now.
2) Someone said to call lawyer's offices and demand pro bono service, and that private attorneys are required to help you. This is not true in most jurisdictions, so don't harass private practice attorneys in a mistaken belief that they are obliged to help you for free, please. Find out from the Court or the public defender's office what the law is in your jurisdiction on the right to counsel.

Get a good lawyer. Because of your two priors, the prosecutors will bring that up. You need an excellent attorney.
Good luck.

Get a lawyer. Try to get court ordered to an anger management course. Live what you learn in there. The person that lives by the knife dies by the knife. And stop lying.

may i suggest therapy?
just kidding.
i don't know your situation, but do whatever you can to avoid a publi defender. call law offices and ask for pro bono. they are all required to do it. if you beg hard enough and cry enough then you may find a weak heart that will help you. just do it.
