I think, in these times of tensed world politics, the pope had to be wiser then to poke the fire up again. What he did was or very stupid, or very provoking.
It can make me pretty angry to be honest. He was insulting a whole religion. Not every muslim wants violence. Actually, most just want to live in peace like we all want. The pope, with his very powerfull religious position, should not have said these things. This is almost a declaration of war between religions. And that is the last thing that the world needs right now.
He is either stupid, or a complete @sshole. I think he is the last, because if you lack intelligence, you will never get a position like that.
Besides that, it is very hypocrite. Look at the past. The Christian religion has shed a lot of blood itself.
I just don't want to go back in time to find ourselfs in an other cruisaders madness.
We need peace, not war. He should appologise!

It was more than just a faux pas. I mean, he is THE POPE, he has to watch his words!
He can't make it look like he could be criticizing the entire Muslim religion...

I think he made a mistake and has questionable timing. His apology even slid by, blaming the 'reaction,' instead of his faux pas.

is this really what the world needs today , from the big cheese of the religion that preaches "peace on earth"
how would Christians Jews or Buddhist feel if a big religious leader of another religion made such remarks about their faith
in fact religion has through out history put people at odds of each other nothing new
you see if you believe you do not think , you just believe no matter how paradoxical your beliefs are
foot note , god s imaginary , i can prove it check this out

I'm not sure what I think. I don't know if the pope should have to worry about being politically correct. He is representing his religion and he is entitled to his beliefs.

It hasn't done much for global harmony.
His beliefs are his beliefs and he is the big cheese of the Catholic church...
But he should be intelligent enough to realise it's a big world with lots of diversity in religion and even if he doesn't agree with it, he should respect it.
He can save his slander for the afterlife and then say "I told you so" if he thinks they are worshipping a false god.

I'm not catholic nor even Christian but I applaud the pope, as a world leader, for treading where angels fear to tread!
