I would think it depends on the general state of family values of any particular family in the first place.
If a family imparts solid values to children, they will likely see TV fare in proper perspective, as long as the values are continually re-inforced by the parents.
Parents can use TV programmes as a comparison to the way REAL people live, and perceive them as drama, melodrama, comedy, fiction or fantasy as the case may be.
Lacking family values or re-inforcement of same, I expect that TV has a negative impact.

it can't be good for them can it? The soaps all seem to be doom and gloom, and full of unpleasant people doing unpleasant things to each other. If any of them had at least some kind of moral message amidst all the depression it might be different, but I think parents should be discouraging TV viewing anyway, especially things like this. There's plenty of more useful and interesting ways to spend an evening.

In my opinion, soaps have a very negative affect on , not just children, but anyone who watches them.

when i was younger the dingles could have been my family! i always thought they were like them, or the battersby's off corrie, when Les wasn't working and they just dossed all day
