make sure you have the latest codecs.
Also dvd's a protected by region, so a UK DVD will not work on a US DVD player for example.

Also make sure that your computer plays the DVD format the movie uses (e.g. DVD+R,DVD-R,DVD+RW)

What O.S. are you using, if XP, go to media player. If that doesn't play its probably a driver problem.

you need to update your media player. it doesnt have the right codec to plat all video's.
