Please narrow that down. Human rights? Civil rights? Royalty rights?

Generally, rights means that you are entitled to something or not to do something based on, say, in the case of Royalty rights, you have the right to recieve money for any artistic property you create, such as a song. Everytime that song is played on the radio or a CD is sold, you get a certain amount of money each time.

"rights" are a context-sensitive concept. We live in relative abundance and , thus, have extended to all demographics certain rights beyond those enshrined in the constitution and now provide shelter, food and medical care to all strata of society. If we hit a time of scarcity and have to compete for resources (as other societies do) you may see redefinition and contraction. I would say somebody else's rights stop when they impact on my life. If you look at our consumption of resouces and exhaustion of farmland, we may be nearer to a contraction than we'd like to be. We live in interesting, but sober times.

You mean what are rights?
Right to have a decent job, to voice ones opinion (on the job also), to chose your representatives, to vote for a president, and to live free of fear and coercion by Uncle Sam.
