Are there any good sites for homework help for 11 year old?

My 11 year old nephew was researching the Amazon Rainforest for a school project and had a lot of difficulty finding suitable material for his age level.
Is it my imagination or are search engines getting more commercial and is it getting harder to sort through the results to get what you need?
