Why am I not offended/traumatized by indecent exposure?

Question

Why is a naked man exposing himself to you so disturbing to the point of being traumatized? Are men offended (either sex exposing themselves to him)?

I'm wondering b/c I know that people can be convicted as sex offenders for indecent exposure, exhibitionism. Have we gotten to a point where any disturbed person is labeled a criminal of some sort in our society?

Two answers to your question. I am a forensic psychologist with over 30 years experience.

Answer 1. People are traumatised because in this society we are taught that we are allowed to be easily offended. We give people the "right" to be offended and traumatised so they are because they don't have resilience to shrug and say "c'est la vie" ... that's life.

Answer 2. Worldwide statistics show that between 70 and 80 per cent of all prisoners suffer some form of mental sickness. About 5 per cent to 10 per cent are psychotic, 67 per cent have a personality disorder, and at least 10 per cent suffer depression as a principal diagnosis. All because we don't know how to teach people to be mentally tough and are soft on drugs.

Better than that, why are so many people offended or traumatized by women breastfeeding in public. A couple of months ago, a magazine put a picture of a baby breastfeeding on the cover, and the hysteria surrounding it was ridiculous. Women wrote in, labeling the picture "Gross." I was sitting there thinking, "Really? You think something as natural as a child nursing is gross? You think your breasts are gross? Are we really that uptight as a nation?"
