if you plan to upgrade your stereo or add other electronic items, get the larger amp. It might cost more but it won't hurt to have extra amperage.

FIrst my condolences , i to owned a mustang II . 78 V6 and at the time so did my girlfriend but she had a straight 6...
The Alternator question is a relatively easy decision. Buy the cheapest one you can get your hands on . There is nothing about that car that requires anything more unless you plan on putting something in it that i know will not fit. It doesnt accomodate easily to any sound systems. Those doorlocks are a ***** to 'Jimmy" One thing you have to watch out for is if you get an oil leak that runs down the back of the motor. It will eventually settle on the Catalytic convertor and the extreem heat ignites it but only when the car is not moving . Had a couple of embarrassing moments .One was in the drive thru at a Carls Junior. Ordering a couple of burgers and the biggest cup of water they have looks strange after you crawl under the car .

Unless you have some huge honkin' stereo system, you should be fine with any alternator.
