They get them from the book "Ideas for Inventors" available at all good book shops!

well, for me, it starts with an idea, more to the point, it begins as a problem requiring a solution. how can we????

and then i engage braincell 1, and braincell 2.. and unlock 40 years of engineering, maths, and psysics, and then, i get a huge pad opf A4 and begn to scribble... (i'm responsible for a few acres of rain forest dissapearing)

the scribble period can take a long time. i have to build the thing in my head, and transfer it to paper, as drawings and explanations. mainly so as i can remember where i am... it can be weeks or months beofre i so much as cut a piece of steel... get it right on paper, make models, and produce a prototype..

and yes, on occasions, we put the kettle on, and just talk, sometimes for hours..theres an expression we use, you can't see the woods for the trees... chatting with your mates and other engineers solves most of these issues, because some bright spark will always say..well..why dont you try this?

i manufacture and design security systems, nothing electronic, or fancy, i make iron bar security systems, for doors and windows etc. i make locks for cars, trailers and motorcycles from harleys to hondas.. and at the centre of each design, is my locking mechanism...and i warn my customers...DONT LOSE THE KEY. because teh only way past my lock, is to destroy it...even with a gas axe its a 30 minute job...an angle grinder maybe an hour if you know where to cut.

in 15 years of production, ive never had a call to say (X) has been broken into... yes, people have tried, and theyve been arrested trying and that design took almost 3 months of thought and reams of paper..over teh 15 years its become the basis of my bussiness.

we forget what we already know. we put microprocessors and ffancy electronics, where we dont need them, because its what everyone else is doing.. folow your own ideas...modify adapt and convert... but dont do whate everyone else is doing... think of a problem, and then generate a solution.

so far; ive an impassable lock housing, with many applications. A trailer, which becomes a towable workshop and a work platform, and it can carry 6m lengths of wood or steel, and give a workplatform 8feet high, so no more scaffolding or climbatowers.. it can even become a market stall...all towed behind a (volvo) biggish car.

the trailer design took us many months of thought and design before we were happy... its a painstaking process.. but, thats why we have grey stuff betrween our ears..its not there to just stop our heads collapsing.

Sir Timothy "Tim" John Berners-Lee (born June 8, 1955 in London) is the inventor of the World Wide Web and director of the World Wide Web Consortium, which oversees its continued development. Informally, in technical circles, he is sometimes called "TimBL" or "TBL".

No generally the best inventions are thought up by people who have a need of something which is not available.
So next time you think ''You know, I could do with a .....'' - patent the idea.

They get their ideas from inspiration and also when they see that there is a problem in the world, they will try to make something up that will help that error

Plz don't blv in above answerers... bcoz none of them r inventors.
