1.let bob's age be x
then paul's age =x+12
4years later,
bob's age=x+4
paul's=x+12+4
x+12+4=3(x+4)
x+16=3x+12
2x=4
x=2
bob's age=2
paul's age=2=12=14

2.P=384=2(L+B)
L=82+B
384=2(82+B+B)
384=2(82+2B)
384=164+4B
4B=220
B=55
L=55+82=137

1. Present Age Age in 4 years
Paula x + 12 x + 12 + 4
Bob x x + 4

x + 12 + 4 = 2/3 ( x + 4 )
x + 16 = 2/3x + 8/3
x - 2/3x = 8/3 - 16
1/3x = -40/3

ahhhhh.... i'm lost...

i' ll just do the next problem its much easier

2. P= 384 m
L= x + 82
W= x

384 = 2(x) + 2 ( x + 82 )
384 = 2x +2x + 164
384 - 164 = 4x
220 = 4x
55 = x

L= 55 + 82
= 137

W = 55

To Check:

P = 2L + 2W
P = 2 (137) + 2 ( 55 )
P = 274 + 110
P= 384

haha..!! i'm right...

1)let bob be x
according to 1st statement

x+x+12=y

and---according to 2nd statement
4+x={2(x+12)}/3
3(4+x)=2x+24
12+3x=2x+24

so.....bobs age=12 and paulas age=24

2)let the width be x
so 2(x)+2(x+82)=384
2x+2x+164=384
4x=220
x=55
therefore width=55 m
length=137m

1>Let d age of Paulas brother be x yrs.
So, Paula's age=(x+12) yrs
4 yrs later,
Age of brother= (x+4)yrs
So,age of Paula={(x+12)+4}yrs.=(x+16)yrs.
Therefore,
(2/3) * (x+16)=(x+4)
or,x=20yrs.
and,(x+4)=8yrs.

2> 2L +2B=384 and L=B +82 (L=length,B=width)
2(B+82)+2B=384
B=55
And, A=55+82=137
U shud check out 4 erronous solutions(not in these 2).
