media outlets which only bring one side of the story to peoples around the world. such as "documentaries", "news", "sympathetic stories to our enemies", etc... i thought "freedom of the press" was to protect the government from spreading propaganda and lies...but if the media is doing it...who stops them...
I am an American and live outside of the US for my job. Everytime I watch the International news from the US it makes me feel that America is a terrible place to live because of so much accepted violence, everyone is against the war, the government can't do anything right, etc... However, when I visit my family what I watched on the "International news" is not the same thing I watch inside of America. The news from inside of america doesn't sound so bad for America.
where i live i can get CNN, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, and BBC.

Well turntable....

To answer your question as best as I can (and I am no expert)... "Is the USA a victim of a propaganda war from the media to promote anti-Americanism which helps terrorists?"

Yes and No. I do not believe that the USA is a victim of a propaganda war from the media TO promote anti-Americanism which helps the terrorists. I refuse to believe that the media could be so calous to actually be trying to embolden those who want to see the United States defeated or destroyed. Maybe Al-Jazeera. I would certainly hope there aren't others hoping for our destruction. I do however believe that the clearly biased reporting being done by the media is assisting the terrorists.

Somebody here mentioned big egos. It isn't the American people that are guilty of this. It is the media who are guilty of having big ego's. There are numerous media organizations that show anti-American sentiments every day. Quite a few news organizations have gone from reporting the news to editorializing the news. They are able to do this by hiding behind the premise of freedom of the press and freedom of speech. They feel emboldened to report "their versions" on the news. Anyone who attempts to discredit "their versions" usually meets with unfavorable press. Unfortuantely on most issues, they, the media, have the last word. Obviously.

It isn't only the media though. The same is true with a large number of educator's in our country. Be they Democrat or Republican, instead of remaining unbiased and teaching history and related philosophies they insert their own philosophies and pass it off as fact, not speculation. Hence, the person learning can't formulate their own opinions. They are learning the opinions of the educator's as fact.

No, America is not a terrible place to live. I doubt you would find a high percentage of Americans that want to live somewhere else. Even those that claim they wish to live somewhere else don't really want to leave or they would. I don't know any American who likes the war. War is never preferred, but sometimes necessary. The government does plenty right. They have made a few errors in judgement and implementing strategy but in most cases they are doing what needs to be done. They are being misrepresented though by those who would like you to believe all the bad things because if you believe all the bad things you are hearing then (sad as it is) they win. What is even worse, is you have those who actually want all the terrible things that the United States has supposedly done to be true. They would rather have it BE true that the United States government was responsible for 9/11 then have it be true that it was an attack on us. They wont bother to look for the facts and they don't want you to either.

AND.. you get people on these boards that pass opinions off as fact and there are those that are eager to believe it just to defame the United States and what it stands for.

For instance...

"america is telling americans that they are the almighty superpower that cant be taken over, and it probably doesnt favor other countries"

This is not true. Not even close to being true. What our Commander in Chief is telling us is that "We are safer but not yet safe". A far cry from we are invincible. Also, I'd like one person to show me where a public comment has been made stating that we are an "almighty superpower".

AND..

Why do a majority , ( over 56% according to poles), of Americans believe Saddam Hussein had links with Osama Bin Laden? This is not true, it never was. The only serious connection between Iraq and Al Qaida at the time was that they both contain a "Q"."

What about terrorism? What about the terror training camps that *had* existed in Iraq for years? I doubt you will find 1% of Americans that believe that Saddam and Osama had direct links with each other. Both of their links to terrorism is undeniable. Nowhere did our President ever say that there was a direct link between Osama and Saddam. Why people keep attempting to say he did amazes me. If they wanted to know the truth to this claim they would look for the truth to this claim.

What our president did say was "Our war on terror begins with al Qaeda, but it does not end there. It will not end until every terrorist group of global reach has been found, stopped and defeated. "

"We will direct every resource at our command -- every means of diplomacy, every tool of intelligence, every instrument of law enforcement, every financial influence, and every necessary weapon of war -- to the destruction and to the defeat of the global terror network. "

"we will pursue nations that provide aid or safe haven to terrorism. Every nation in every region now has a decision to make: Either you are with us or you are with the terrorists. "

(By the way, pay attention to the response directly above this response and see how quoting this statement that President Bush made is even misrepresented.)

"From this day forward, any nation that continues to harbor or support terrorism will be regarded by the United States as a hostile regime."

Don't take my word for it that this is what has been said.. read it for yourselves. It was the speech to the Joint members of Congress on September 21, 2001. Ten days following the attack on America.

In terms of knowledge about the rest of the world, America is poorly educated and badly led, by a Right wing fundamentalist religious party, that is badly advised and poorly informed. Telling the American public the truth would seem to be the priority for its Government. I feel sorry for the average American.

Most of the Americans I have met have been very nice people, who once they understood a situation could analyse and solve most problems for themselves. Our problem here has been misleading statements from the American Government.

Why do a majority , ( over 56% according to poles), of Americans believe Saddam Hussein had links with Osama Bin Laden? This is not true, it never was. The only serious connection between Iraq and Al Qaida at the time was that they both contain a "Q".

There are American troops being killed unnecessarily because of the stupidity of their own Government. There are American led, "Death Squads" in Iraq and Afghanistan, mercenary troops, not regular forces, what purpose do they serve?

America has the power to solve the problem, do Americans have the will?

If we are not with you we are against you.

Your president declares dissenters as being an enemy.

People who want answers...truthful answers that your president has not given to answers asked publicly.

Yes we the rest of the world think America is represented by a maniacal government that loves war.

Your brain dead president calls himself the "War President"

Wars cost lives and the UN is only made useless because America supports dictators, hates labour unions, and enforces barbarous acts.

You are in another country but still you are not worldly.

hmmm... that's a tough one... The USA is a victim of it's government. The media frenzy is just an undesireable side effect. I do believe you got shafted but you have only your countrymen to blame for that, after all they had a chance to end it all last election but they chose, instead, to support the warmonger. In short, the american people are good, hard working honest people, if maybe a bit gulliable. Your current government screwed it up for the rest of you.

Brilliant! Thank you!
There are many forces at work to help the terrorists defeat the US:
News Media
Terrorist Propaganda Machine
Liberals who hate Bush
There are many people on Yahoo whose questions show support for the terrorists.
There are people who are creating new 9/11 conspiracies to help the terrorists.
This is big stuff. WWIII is on.

it probably works both ways. america is telling americans that they are the almighty superpower that cant be taken over, and it probably doesnt favor other countries. unfortunately america isnt invinsible, and we are seeing the overconfidence of america destroy america. if the american media would show anti-american sentiments to americans, maybe the country would wake up and start fighting for itself.

sadly, you are correct...since most major media outlets are owned and operated by those who "Blame America first" you will never read a good thing about America...as long as a liberal is "creating" the news..not.."reporting"..the news.

bill, what kinds of comments? would desire to you provide some examples? Then i'll respond. It merely feels like a disconnect between how the questioner goals u.s. would desire to be and how issues extremely are, esp. in her view for many Black human beings. Imo, racism remains alive and correctly--everywhere--no longer in basic terms in u.s.. in reality, i'm a form of folk who tries to no longer enable that provide up me. I see the themes in our expensive united states of america, yet i like my united states of america and have vowed to do all it extremely is in my capability to stay freely and to make constructive human beings have the right to stay freely. For me, it extremely is the yankee dream: freedom. the liberty to pursue happiness and the liberty to dissent and to stand as much as something that thwarts that happiness. the liberty to define myself outdoors the limitations of ways human beings choose for to label or see me. I even have traveled to different international locations, and as much as now the only united states of america that comes close to to the kind of freedom I journey right here is Australia, or perhaps there i chanced on a dose of racism. No huge deal. I nevertheless had an impressive time in Brisbane and in Sydney. i'm extra in track with what the late great poet Langston Hughes as quickly as mentioned. To paraphrase: u.s. substitute into by no potential u.s. to me yet I swear in this oath u.s. would be does no longer it make extra sense to maintain the imaginitive and prescient or dream of justice and equality alive than to trash the form or the DOI, that have been written at a term whilst there is not any way our founders would have envisioned such variety? i think of it relatively is as much as us to create the u.s. we would desire to stay in. to cite the late great poet June Jordan: "we are the single we've been waiting for."
