The sad truth about relationships is it's never a 50-50 percent contribution or involvement. All relationships work best with 60-40 or 70-30 percent contribution. But you appreciate each other in different ways. Your partner may appreciate you for putting in more effort to change while you may appreciate your partner for other reasons.

Emotional attachment is a powerful thing and it takes some people longer to let go than others. For some it's obsessive and they want to hold on. If you don't send mixed signals and you go on in your own direction ideally the other person will get the message that it's over and start to break away and heal.
