why has anything become so popular?? okay the bad side of soccer, 22 men running around a field for 90 minutes trying to put a ball into a designated scoring area which happens on average 1.6 times a game. people began to follow in the late 1800's and early 1900's as they had nothing better to do, damn tv wasn't invented, so they had to pass the bordom somehow. a history of fathers taking their sons to games, a big day out for the family to see the local team play, it just so happenend that it stayed popular. personally, my grà for soccer has gone for almost 3 years, ever since i became mad into rugby and tennis soccer seams boring ( yes i know tennis is boring to watch but i play a lot). another reason is pure passion,

the best example of quater of a country going on hold while a bunch of men running around a field after a ball is Munster rugby fans. these people travel europe to munster rugby fixtures. they pay insane prices for extra tickets.

as regards to why, why not? yes i am answering a question with a question, but seriously why not? should we stay at home wait for our mundain days to draw to a close only to repeat the same mundain procedure the next day?? by asking this question, you have shown that you are not interested in sport, are you interested in tv shows or movies, if so why? are they not a gorup of people pretending to be something that they're not for the entertainment of others? that is the reason soccer, like so many other sports, is so popular, is because people want to be entertained. read some of the newspapers about the amount of people heading to ireland for the rider cup, why should they stop their lives because some people want to hit a small ball a long distance and put it into a hole in the ground???

Your Answer: I seldom post answers to this section ( or any section for that matter ), but I do read them often. However, I have not seen where anyone has given a common sense reason why Football and Futbol fans butt heads. They are 2 completely different sports. If a Futball team were to try to compete with a Football tean, even this years Lions or Rams, after the first few minutes, the stadium would have run out of ambulances and the Futbol team out of players. When a Lenard Little or a Javon Kearse or polamalu can run a 40 in 4.6 or so and at 260 lbs or so hit you with the intention of makeing sure you go to the ground, pads, helmet nor anything else can or will prevent the pain. Futbol players are athletes no doubt. They have both the wind and the stamina to play THEIR game. AS well as very good corindation. BUT, toughness, IMHO, I'm LMAO. Source(s):

compare football with many of the other major sports...in cricket u got so many complications like first fifteen overs...now 20 overs...powerplays...run outs...leg before...third umpire...pitch report..weather report...new ball ...old ball...ball tampering...and almost 10 ways of getting out. hockey is not that elegant from the spectator's point of view. baseball has got its own set of complicated rules.rugby has its own.table tennis is good but not that much fun. golf is fun for the players who are playing.lawn tennis is the only other sport besides football that has elegance,is exciting to watch from the spectators viewpoint, and most importantly there are not many hassleS before and during the game (for example , like complicated and too many rules).
most importantly in football u can play even in rain...there is no fear of getting the "pitch" wet...and no fear as to the swinging of the ball.
football is easy to learn...it needs the least amount of accesories...get a ball and start playing. it catches on faster than many other sports.

BUT THIS IS NOT TO SAY THAT THE OTHER SPORTS ARE ANY WAY BELOW SOCCER. EACH SPORT HAS ITS OWN POINTS. I AM MORE A CRICKET FANATIC THAN A FOOTBALL MANIAC...

Its a game that can be played by all ages and both sexes. You can make a living out of the game if you have enough talent for the minor leagues. And if you are really gifted you can become a super star in the top flight.

It has been popular for many many years but the US have not jumped on to this surprisingly considering that most of them hail from europe originally. They have stuck with the games they invented and as they didnt invent it,they dont want to play.
