Cats don't like noise and light they are nocturnal so if you want to you can get seance's that will set an alarm( hooter, barking dog, people talking. etc ) or lights or if you want both another way is to use tobacco dust good reason to smoke they don't like the smell of it and you can keep some insect out at the same time. What do they do is the queston here so as to give the appropriate add vice. I have heard of cat waling on electric fence and not getting shocked. Using water is a waste of water ,do you have mint or cat nip in your garden coz the like that there are some herbs they like ,so they wont eat your veggies but your herbs instead . the tobacco dust you should be able to get that at a nursery

As a gardener i found that people use a chemical called Renardine which can be applied in different ways including-
•Small sticks soaked in renardine around problem areas, mixed with sand and applied to paths or drives, soaked onto old used tea bags.
•To stop cats coming in through a hedge, try threading a string through the hedge that has Renardine soaked tea bags or rags attached every few inches
• if you have freshly dug open areas try putting tea bags impregnated with Renardine under the surface of the soil which will allow the smell to be released without spoiling the look of your garden
• to stop cats climbing over your wall or fence, suspend a length of string about 6-9" above the fence and hang impregnated rags or used tea bags every few inches or so.
All of these techniques avoid the need to go into the garden every time you see a cat and should avoid them entering in the first place.
This product also repels: dogs, foxes, rabbits, moles and badgers.
Renardine will stain (rather like creosote) and has quite a strong smell! So never apply to foliage, and it's best to wear gloves and old clothes when working with Renardine.

Are they your cats? if not get a cat trap and then take the animals to the shelter or take it to the owner. using a sprinkler too much will hurt your garden and is a waste of water since you will have to keep it on most of the time unless you want to stake out your garden 24 hours a day and turn it on whenever you see a cat.

Use the water pistol. Super soakers are the best, or you can use a spray bottle, this is a bit kinder to the cats. After a few times, they will never want to go into the garden again.

The absolute best and probably most humane ( I am not a cat lover but realize some misguided people are) cat or any other creature repellent is a motion activated water sprinkler. These sprinklers are not cheap but they work and will be functioning long after other methods have quit working.
Best Price here.

Have you thought about the fact that the cat might be taking care of some mouses in your house? Trust me! Cats are very discreet and don't go to a place unless they feel like they have to!
About the sprinklers someone suggested earlier; I agree that it could work better because you can get yourself in serious trouble by causing damage to the cat. Be careful and try to be "caring" as well if you can!
Sometimes our so "thought to be" enemies are actually our friends! You never know!...

Spray them with water as it doesn't hurt them at all. Also they don't like the smell of citrus so you could get some oranges and lay them round the garden where the cat comes in.

I heard if you fill a couple of 2 gallon milk jugs with water and place them around your garden. You can spray vinegar around the fence or where ever their getting in thru.

I found filling empty lemonade plastic bottles up with water placed strategically around your flower beds helps as, cats do not seem to like seeing something move that they cannot get at.
