Equation of the canoe travel:
x1 = v1*t1
Eq of the motorboat:
x2 = v2*t2

v1 = speed of canoe = 10km/h
v2 = speed of motorboat = 22km/h

Since the motorboat leaves 2 hours later, t2 = t1 - 2

When they encounter x1 = x2

This gives the equation : v1*t1 = v2*(t1 - 2)
Resolving this:

10*t1 = 22*(t1 - 2)
10*t1 = 22*t1 - 44
12*t1 = 44
t1 = 44/12 = 11/3 hours or 11/3*60 = 660/3 = 220 minutes

So the motorboat catches up aftre 220 minutes!!

The distance made after 220 minutes or 11/3 hours:

x2 = v2*t2 = 22*11/3 = 80.66666... km

(a) motor boat will catch up after 3 hrs 40min
(b) motor boat will travel 36.7 km

(i) In first two hrs the canoe travelled 20 kms .(motor boat starts after this)

speed of canoe is 10 kms per hr. so for 2 hr (10 + 10 = 20)

(ii) next one hr motor boat travelled 22 kms and canon travelled 30 kms (total time is three hrs now)

speed of boat is 22 kms per hr so for 1 hr 22 kms
speed of canoe is 10 kms per hr. so for 3 hr (10 + 10 +10 = 30)

(ii) in next half an hour canoe travelled 35 kms and motor boat travelled in 33 kms (total time is 3hours 30 min now)

speed of boat is 22 kms per hr so for 1 1/2 hrs (22 + 22/2 = 33)
speed of canoe is 10 kms per hr. so for 3 1/2 hrs (10 + 10 + 10 + 10/2 = 35)

(iii) in next ten minutes canoe travelled 36.7 km and motor boat travelled 36.7 kms (total time is 3 horus 40 min now) both meet each other at this point.

speed of boat is 22 kms per hr so in 1 min it travels .37 kms, so in ten minutes it tavels 3.7 kms. so for 3 hrs 40 min (33 + 3.7 = 36.7 kms)

speed of canoe is 10 kms per hr. so for in one min it travels .17 kms so in ten minutes it travels 1.7 kms so in 3 hrs 40 min (35 +1.7 = 36.7 kms)
