Originated during WW2 and sang by Arthur Askey, made more famous by Harry Belefonte, and had something to do with rationing.

I believe it was a song by Harry Belefonte back in the 50's. Iremeber seeing it done on stage by Arther Askey but how it originated I don't know.

Saw Harry Belafonte do it on TV when I was a kid, everyone laughed and soon it was on the radio every day. I think this was the first time it was performed for the larger audience.
