Broadcast and cable news is pathetically inaccurate, poorly reported, and inordinately biased these days. The "fourth estate", which has always served as a watchdog for the public and protected us from the evils and frauds of our government, is now part of the evils and frauds perpetrated by our government.
Huge media conglomerates are only interested in their 38% profit margins now instead of truth, fairness, and accuracy. Run by beancounters instead of journalists, modern media lacks integrity, objectivity, and the skepticism necessary to report truthfully. The conservative-biased media finds it more "cost-effective" to simply repeat a government-issued news release, verbatim, without any independent investigation, follow-through or questioning as to the veracity of such news.
Examples: If the media were alert, we would know the truth of the Bush administration's involvement in the 9-11 disasters. If the media was at the top of its game, we would know the real reasons why we're involved in an illegal and unconstitutional "war" with Iraq. If the media had any integrity, we would know about the largest embassy in the world now under construction on a 104-acre site in downtown Baghdad, which obviously demonstrates that the U.S.A. will have a huge presence in Iraq for decades to come (until all of the OIL is sucked out of that country's sands).
Especially the Fox "News" channel, and "commentators" like Ann Coulter and Rush Limbaugh are nothing more than lying propagandists installed to spread the "news" that the GOP-dominated government wants publicized. It serves only to brainwash non-thinking "ditto heads' who are stupidly willing to believe any pabulum the government spoon-feeds to them by the Nazi-inspired Limbaugh and/or Shawn Hannity or Bill O'Reilly. Today's media is a travesty; a scourge on the United States spirit of a free press and Americans' right to freedom of expression. -RKO-

It depends on what they are reporting. If it is the weather or some story about a robbery it will be as accurate as possible. If it covers stories of national security, like war ie Iraq etc. It will be biased and non-factual. This is for security reasons. The governing bodies use the media for propoganda and literally brainwash the public. Who, unfortunately, beleive all they see and read on the news. I recall seeing iages from the start of the Iraq war that were a laugh at what they were trying to represent. Anybody with knowledge in that field would also clearly have seen that many of the images were not from Iraq, nor were they 'bombed' buildings etc. They will show the public what they want the public to see (through the media) so that they do not lose face or create instability through losing the faith of the people (not that they could lose anymore people faith). We all know who 'they' are. Talk about environmental 'bush encroachment'

Facts are reported, however, the facts are always subject to personal bias. However good a reporter is, they will have a very difficult job trying to omit any personal, "spin", when reporting anything.
Check out any news service that deals with the DEAF for instance. Subtle changes occur in the news, just so that they can speed up their subtitles, these changes, although seemingly unimportant, change the NEWS from the way it was reported to others.
We are engaged in a debate about the nature of, TRUTH of an event, and the truth of an event is a collective thing, my view of an event is my truth, but it is not the same as yours. If we both watch the same event from different positions we will have two different versions of the same event, combine both versions and we will have a, "better" truth of what actually happened.
