was it a formal invite??? you can tell if you actually got a fancy invitation with a RSVP card included. best to ask the person who invited you what the dress code is for the evening.

It all depends where the engagement party is being held.

At a hall or formal reception centre then formal for sure.

Backyard or clubs would be casual.

somewhere between formal and casual. it is fine to wear your casual clothing to an engagement party, but try not to make yourself look too casual or you'll look outta place. it's not good to be too formal either. save the gown for the wedding. if it helps, ask someone resourceful what is the preferable dress code for the party.

I'd go with a nice, kind of dressy, casual, though the invitation should have specified if it was a formal affair.
It's never comfortable to over or under dressed, but with the nice casual you won't be too overly or too under dressed.

Depends on where the event is being held and what time of the day or evening. If it is causual place and daytime, go casual. If it is held in the evening or a formal place, go formal. You can also ask someone else who is attending.

If you are driving there, go formal but have some casual in the car. That way you can watch people going in and if necessary you can change.

As long as you're comfortable in what you are wearing, you'll have a great night either way.

It depends on the people. For most people, since this is a very special occasion, they would dress more formally than usual. However, I know of some people who have trouble getting out of shorts and t-shirts for the wedding itself.
