So many greats. First in my mind are Neil Peart, Buddy Rich, Lars Ulrich, Alex Van Halen (highly under-rated), Aynsley Dunbar, Buddy Miles, Chad Wackerman, Dave Grohl (often forgotten as a drummer), Rick Allen, and many more.

Hal Blaine...drummed on most of the Phil Spector classics...any Phil Spector hits collection will feature him...and also the Christmas Gift Album
Gene Krupa, certainly...one of the all time greatest
Buddy Rich
There were a few, but I liked the drummers on the Treasure Isle rock steady recordings (precursor to reggae...if you see a Treasure Isle...or Studio One, for that matter...compilation on Heartbeat or Trojan, it's worth a listen)
John Bonham and Keith Moon, definitely
not the most creative, but in terms of overall sound, I'd add Dave Clark to the list...if a drummer is the band's anchor, he might well be a prime example
Ringo at his best
note to Cristancat2000: the Go-Go's drummer's name was Gina Schock...perhaps the best musician in the band, actually...good call...:)

OK here we go..ready?? its hard to come up with just one good drummer, there are different styles and music, but all of these are/were the cream of the crop in their musical styles..just to name a few, there are some others that are quite impressive, but to keep the list as short as possible, most of these guys have influenced the rest of the world in the music biz..
Bill Bruford/early Yes, King Crimson, UK, Genesis, solo project, Earthworks
Terry Bozzio/ Frank Zappa, UK, Missing Persons
Joey Baron/ John Zorn and the naked city
Mick Harris/ Napalm Death
Neil Peart/ Rush
Max Roach..hes played with everybody and their brother (old jazz drummer) one of the finest
Gene Kruppa.. well hes in a league of his own
Igor Cavalera/ Sepultura
Martin Lopez/ former Opeth..nice percussionist as well
The late Keith Moon/ The Who one heck of a character
Clive Burr/ early Iron Maiden
Stuart Copeland/ The Police, solo project/ currently working on Broadway, also writes soundtracks for movies
Pete Sandoval/ Morbid Angel
Good luck and happy listening

The ones that stand out most to me are John Bonham of Led Zeppelin, Neal Peart of Rush, Bill Ward of Black Sabbath, and Nikko McBrain of Iron Maiden. There are lots of other great drummers out there as well. Heck, Ringo Starr is a great drummer in his own right...not because of his beats but the way he used the drums to help create interesting dynamics for The Beatles. Go back 50 or 60 years and Buddy Rich stands out.

Phil Collins was pretty good too. His song - "In the air" has a powerful drum solo in the middle 8's.
There was a band from Australia that used 2 drummers. Their name was "Big Pig" their top song was "Hungry town". They achieved some interesting percussion rhythms using the 2 drummers as the lead instrument(s)

For me, it would have to be John Bonham of Led Zeppelin. Particularly good examples of his work would be:
"Achilles Last Stand" from the album Presence
"When The Levee Breaks" from Led Zeppelin IV
"Whole Lotta Love" from Led Zeppelin II
"Stairway To Heaven" from Led Zeppelin IV
Although almost any song of Zep's is an ample example of why he was so great.

I'm glad you asked. She was my fave, and the drummer for the "Go Go's". She rocked! I can't remember her name though. :) Do I have to talk about Duran Duran? Roger Taylor was awsome on the drums too...
