I've already tried a wallpaper steamer, sticky stuff remover and nail varnish remover - the only thing that works is a scouring pad and a lot of scrubbing - I'll be here until next Christmas!

Soak it in really really warm water, it'll help loosen the adhesive. Then use a flat plaster spreader type tool to scrape it off. Keep rewetting the adhesive to keep it soft. It weakens the hold of the adhesive on the wall.

I have stripped borders lots of times, and I find the best way to do it is to soak the border with really hot soapy water, start one end of the wall, whack loads of soapy water on it all the way to the end of the wall, then go back and repeat, do this about 4 times, then scrape off.
You will need a bit of elbow grease, but the hot water is the best way to go.

I had the same problem, i tried everything I had, and ended up using sand paper. Inn fact when I realised what the problem was, I gave up on the steamer, pelled off the surface of the border, and set to with sandpaper on the DRY backing. hard woirk, but the finished paint job was great.

There is a good commercial product called "Goo-Gone"-available in most Hardware stores-If that has been tried-go to an auto-parts store and get the "adhesive/striping remover" made by Dupont-it will remove ANYTHING easily-including your skin if you dont wear rubber gloves.

If you mix vinegar & water, mostly, viegar, into a spray bottle and soak it good, that should do the trick. That's how I do it and I have to do it a lot.
