The first ICC Champion Trophy which was played in Sri Lanka in 200-2003. The final was played in Colombo on 29.09.2002 between Sri Lanka and India , which was abandoned due to rain. The final was replayed on 30.09.2002, which was also abandoned due to rain. Sri Lanka and India were therefore declared as joint winners.
Prior to 2002-2003, the Tournament was played in the name of ICC Knock Out Tournament. The first Knock-out Tournament which was played in 1998/99 was won by South Africa.
