I received three fines for my pets for not re-registering them. The reason I had done that was because I moved out of that town, and was no long required to register them in that town. I thought it would be a simple thing to sort out, but when I spoke to them they told me that the officer will never issue a fine without the owner being present and they always issue in person. This is not possible as I wasn't in the town anymore. I told them I could prove it (as I have a lease for my new place) but the big boss doesn't believe me and said his employees would not lie. I was told that I either pay them or go to court. What are my rights, and what can I say when I ring them once again tomorrow? Any good comebacks he won't know what to do with? I don't want to go to court especially as I would have to take the day off work.

I don't exactly know what I've done to deserve such horrible responses! Why am I being called a b i t c h? It's a pretty simple question and I just wanted advice as it was unfair being fined, just like it's unfair being attacked for no reason. Thanks to the nice people though.

If you were not in the town at that time, you will simply present proof of that by a cancelled lease and a new lease from the new location. Also, instead of arguing, let them know that a simple mistake could have been made as we are all humans and mistakes could be made. If you still feel that they are being unfair, take the situation to the judge. Have your paperwork ready. Get affidavits, which are sworn statements that are notarized from your neighbors or landlords stating that you indeed moved out of the old place and moved into the new place by the dated they mentioned and show it to the Judge. If you have your duckies in a row, the Judge will made a fair decision.

You have a few options here....ask to speak with the big boss' supervisor (don't take no for an answer on this one), get the media involved, get an attorney, and see if you can talk to the local government officials there who oversee the county rather than just the town/city. The last straw may have to be notifying the state government as this person sounds very dishonest.

How did they know if your pets had not been re-registered? Was this mailed to you? Sometimes its just cheaper to pay the fine.

One of my dogs got out once and animal control picked her up. Would of cost $20 for fines, but decided to fight it. Lost in court. With court charges, came to $150
