Of course animals can have mental disorders. It's a matter of definition whether you say their disorders are "like" the ones people have. My aunt had a cat who was hit by a car and survived but was brain injured and could not walk properly afterward even though it was hit in the head, not the back or legs. My mother's dog had Canine Cognitive Dysfunction which is a form of dog senility with features that are somewhat similar to Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases in humans but distinct from both. I don't know if I've ever seen a "retarded" animal but some are certainly not very smart. There is no intelligence test for animals but I've seen a few who are dumber than the vast majority. My grandmother had a dog who made a habit of hunting porcupines. Most dogs would learn after the first time they got a snout full of quills but this dog would do it any time he got loose. Repeatedly not learning from a mistake like that has got to be some kind of mental defect.

Yes, they can.

Inbreeding can cause most, statistically.

Although animals are not on the same level of intelligence as humans, they can be "mentally-challenged".

Unfortunately for them, sometimes like people, they are discarded, thrown away, abused or just dumped and left to fend for themselves.

I'm sorry for going off on my tirade, but I work with mentally-challenged adults and you wouldn't believe some of the reasons they are in our home or what they've gone through in life.

Animals, to me, are also beings that should be treated with respect and it makes me sick to see what goes on out there in this world.

I know you're question was probably more for "fun", so sorry if I ruined it for you! Have a great night!

They have the same problems that humans have . The entire psychological scope.
Isn't it scary that some people are taught that they are "dumb animals" incapable of such capacity,

When those people see an "animal" acting funny, they usually just laugh and think that it is funny.

Wanna talk about a bunch of retards?

Can Animals Be Retarded

LOL! Yes, I do believe they can. Sorry, it just struck me as funny for a minute there. There is a border collie that we have lived next door to for 10 years and everytime he sees us in the yard, he goes ballistic. We call him Psycho Puppy.

Sure they can. I've seen lots of animals which didn't have the mental capacity of their siblings and such.
