They are sad and deluded. I haven't seen any evidence of Islam being peaceful. All I have seen were terrorist attacks in which people were killed or maimed; people taken hostage and beheaded; young Muslims on tv calling for a jihad against the West. The Pope was misquoted and these thin-skinned people then started burning effigies of him. When they start to condemn terrorism and try to integrate then they may be accepted and believed but I won't hold my breath.

I agree with the Pope in that they do try to spread their beliefs through violence. They say that the West is evil because we are secular and we are allowed to be sexual, driven or whatever. However these are also outlets and may lend women and especially men to be less aggressive and have other interests. They are evil because they delude themselves into thinking they don't indulge, but however they do indulge in their only allowed outlet which is the worst of all of them and that is violence and hate for anyone not like them. This violence is an excuse for an outlet. Do you really think God condones blowing up unsuspecting people in the market place? What about stoning women for being raped or whatever? They don't do it for God but they do it because they enjoy it, the only indulgence they are allowed. How sad. The Pope should not have to apologize.

Any people suffering the long term indoctrination of governmental propaganda are highly likely to justify that which they have been brainwashed to accept. just as other countries do in their own less dangerous ways.
Few people on the planet are truly above some form of bias regardless of their denial. what is just what is violent we argue capital punishment is both just and unjust which is it? our 2nd amend. stands for guns rights is that violent?we think we are peaceful too.self denial prevails............

"Show me just what Mohamed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached". this is what he said, referring to the crusades as a parallel. Can I just remind you that the crusades are accountable for the greatest wide-spread bloodshed in the history of the Middle-ages. All the people of Constantinople or Jerusalem, raped and killed in name of the church and the cross. Who is talking about swords...and religion....and peace...the church is known for its battle against the heidens and for the numerous inhuman kills that came along with this policy. If one religion has taken the sword to defend its words, its the church. Ratzinger is bringing gallons of fuel into an already explosive situation which shows he is ignorant or very very stupid.
the pope is a fool to say these stupid things, knowing the consequences of such words. His task is to bring religions together, not setting them apart, creating violence and distrust

they misinterpreted the quote he made to mean that the teachings of mohammed were spread by the sword. he just meant that there have been many religious wars.
also, muslims are not all violent, just might have a short fuse.
remember, there are not millions of islamic extremists.

Pope has no right to quote facts. First he should apologize for supporting Hitler in WW2 and for the violence during Middle Age and colonization of Africa,... Second, as a Christian he should be ashamed to spread violence and anger against civilizations. He should be more like the previous pope. I'm happy I left Christianity and become atheist.
