Yes, in biology we had to do a project on like disease and mirmaidism is one there has been a few people born with there legs together that makes them look like a mermaid

no, though i wish they exist, haha. makes life more interesting. many so-called skeletons of mermaids are hoaxes and otherwise accounts of seeing one are most likely lies or delirious stories. i think being out at sea for a long time does things to one's mind so that dugongs and the like look like women.

no i believe the sailors saw seals or walruses from a distance and that is how the mermaid myth got started

no fact, all here-say and myth, I just read mermaid where delight charming creatures and another account saying the we evil mystical water monster that charm you with their voice and drown you.... how contradicting
