The pope refered to comments made by historical figures and other popes in the past , such comments had negative things to say about the prophet of islam and about the islamic faith. What if the pope refered to the hundereds of hostile remarks about the jews made by so many popes several centuries ago . Would that be anti semetic behaviour , or a an action of hatered and it would require a t least a smiliar fuzz as that made in response to the comments made by mel gibson? or would it all be a matter of freedom of speech?

Some one of the commentors here said the pope got a threat of a suicide bombing. Is there a source of this weird bit of info or was it just imagined?(media can really make people imagine things, it seems!)

How were these comments referred to? Was he citing them as fact? Was he just repeating other Pope's opinions? There are many answers to this question. And anti-Semitic is hatred. It isn't an either or.

Please, people of the Western World, stop getting into hissy-fits over all of this and KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE BALL.
If I remember correctly Muslims spread their power and religion from the Middle-east right into Spain in less than a hundred years.
Those they conquered were given the choice of converting or the sword. What the hell do you think some of these Muslim fanatics are trying to do TODAY, while we in the West debate the correctness or niceties of the Pope's words?
If you're an all-loving Christian, who doesn't know his ***-from-******-in-the-ground, try your luck in Saudi Arabia. Man, you all better wake the hell up.

I'm fairly certain that the pope would be criticized if he directed remarks like that toward the Jewish religion.
But he would not get a response threatening a suicide bombing.

well freedom does not mean a liscense to say anything it has its own repurcussion especially if you are a an authority of something in his case a "religious one". Has the pontiff says something to same effect to the Jews of course it would be considered as anti-semetics in what ever form he put it.

He was citing something not saying it was correct but every moron and his dog have decided that it must have been rude. Pity the Muslims show that the comments about Islam being violent are wrong by themselves being...violent. What a load of pathetic losers.

good question, which highlights the hypocristy of free speech vs. PC. of course it is free speech to be anti islam, but not PC to say anything anti semetic!
