The care label will show you if your duvet is machine washable or not. Unless you have a big washing machine, washable duvets are best washed at a launderette. After washing make sure they are completely dried and aired before use.

feathers do love to be washed. Down comes from ducks or geese, which are in the water all the time, and the composition of the feather doesn't change.

Make sure the machine is large enough to handle the weight when the duvet is wet. Use warm or cold water and a good detergent.

top loading machines are rubbish - they dont get clothes etc clean as well as front loaders due to the angle of rotation. The answer then is don't put a feather duvet in a top loader.
I washed my kingsize feather in my front loader and tumble dried it then aired it and it was fine, but my machines are larger than standard.
Take it to the dry cleaners and invest in a front loader.

Im afraid feathers dont take to being washed in water well. A Dry-cleaners is the best option.

dont do it, you'll ruin the duvet. its best handed into dry cleaners for best results plus the feathers stink and escalp when they come into contact with water

I suggest never washing it but use a duvet cover, or comforter cover instead and just pop that in your washer. If you really need to wash it take it to the pros. To kill the dust mites stick it in a freezer or if it gets freezing cold where you live place it outside. The cold will kill the dust mites.

Sent it to the drycleaners for washing. In between wash, you should sun it to keep it dry.
