MASTER GARDENER TO THE RESCUE

A few things you want to keep in mind when planting near a swimming pool. the first thing is you want plants that don't make litter. You don't want to spend all of your time cleaning the pool, you want to spend time swimming in it.
Another thing to keep in mind are plants without sharp pointy parts.No one want to bend over to pick up a towel and get the branch of a firethorn up their .... swimsuit.

Here are a few suggestions that work well around a pool.
treelike plants.....
schefflera
musa
Australian willow
tree ferns (varies)

shrubs....
camellia
pittosporum
hibiscus
pineapple guava

perennials....
daylily
jade plant
bird of paradise (standard & giant)
forthnight lily
lilly turf
canna

Cyperus altifolia, Cyperus haspan, Cyperus papyrus, Bird of Paradise, Elephant Ear, Boston Fern, Geraniums, Dracenas, there are lots and lots. Do you want heighth or color? Good luck

It depends where you live. If you can plant palm trees, they look nice and can withstand direct or indirect sun. Our neighbor planted them with some other greenery. It looked stunning. You can then add color or other plants to suit your needs.
