It states that it is a government program that offers you money to pay off bills etc. all you have to do is pay the shipping. It explains that they give you the info you require to fill out the proper government forms to receive money in your paycheck. The shipping cost varies from $20-$8 depending on how long you want to wait for the package. I am having some financial problems and I am curious if this is a scam. Has anyone ever followed up with something like this and actually received money? The name of the organizaion is Financial Assistance Network based in Washington, DC. Also, does anyone know how to receive assistance or money to pay off bills etc... Thanks in advance for any help!

Don't EVER give out personal information to people who randomly send you an e-mail. I know sometimes it looks like a good idea, but no legitimate company and definitely not the govt would send you an e-mail to get info from you. Don't take the chance, because if you're having financial problems now, imagine what it'll be like fighting fraud on top of it.

The fact that they are asking you for money to pay the shipping suggests to me that this is definitely a scam,....no matter how desperate you may or may not be to pay off your debts, please do not send this company any money or any personal details.

The only safe, legitimate way to pay off debts is to cut down on your out goings, prepare a budget and stick to it, and either talk to a bank manager or see if your company are prepared to help you with a low interest consolidation loan. In the UK we have something called the Citizen's Advice Bureau where we can go for advice on all matters...do they have some such organisation in the States that may be able to advise you?

You could also see if you have any items that you no longer require and raise some money by selling them.

Good Luck.

Do not give up any money or personal information...If you have doubts, try getting in touch with them on the telephone....

Many lenders get your name and address like any other business gets your name and address within your community.

If they claim to be a governmental agency...what department within the government do they work out of...?
