I am not sure but I think that my modem is going. I have a computer in another room and it almost never disconnects but this computer will disconnect 4 or 5 times in an hour. Will a packard bell modem work in a compaq computer and if so will you tell me step by step how to get the modem out of the packard bell and into the compaq. Thanks alot.

I doubt if there is anything wrong with your modem. They either work or they don't.

You may want to check your connection, though. A really long wire connection can slow things down considerably below the 56k most dial-up modems are capable of.

any modem can work in any brand. As long as the settings are correct. Check baud rate, physical connection between PC and modem, check modem driver, go to control panel in windows and go to systems.. and check if modem driver is attached.. or ise Add hardware feature...

modems are out dated... get cable or dsl..
