Yes, but it is very difficult to hear. You are better off with the kind at the doctor's office which are amplified. It is also possible to rent or buy the amplified stethoscopes. You can at about 16 weeks along. You can also rent or buy a Doppler , that can detect a heartbeat as soon a 10 weeks along.

Yes, if you can locate your baby's trunk you can hear the heartbeat most of the time. Sometimes he/she is sitting too far back in the uterus to pick it up, but it's completely possible and so worth it! Good luck!

I wouldn't try doing it yourself. What if you can't hear it and then get in a panic? It's very hard to hear, even doctors and midwives take a while to get it because babies move around.
