Some players call other player "gamblers" to get on their nerves a little. So most of the time it's just a tactic.
It's all in the context, and on the person it is being directed to.
If another player called me a gambler after I had just won a hand, I would just smile back.
If another player called me a gambler after I had just lost half of my chip stack, then I would probably scowl at the other player. Perhaps make him the target of my next "gamble". =]

Well for someone to be a gambler, he/she must put something on the line as a form of wager.
More often than not, it is in the form of something tangible, like money (as opposed to chores) While it varies, that is seemingly a fact in most societies we claim as "civilised"
Therefore it shouldnt be an insult to a poker player who lays down chips because in actual fact, they are gamblers

My husband is a poker player and it wouldn't insult him. I think that in general poker players view themselves as gamblers...they are not ashamed of it. That is the name of the game.

Its a calculated risk and in some situations you are forced to gamble. The house has an advantage in every other game besides poker, but i don't mind people saying its gambling.
