Yes. The Bush administration has been positively Orwellian, creating their own version of Newspeak with terms like Patriot Act and No Child Left Behind, both of which do the opposite of what their name implies.

While there is potential for abuse on the part of the government, I do not believe there have been any cases yet in which innocents have been injured.
