The Druids were the priestly caste of the Celts before they became Christians. Parallel to the Brahmins of India. Their roles were to conduct religious rituals, to advise their kings, and to be judges, bards (singer-poets) and generally the guardians of cultural traditions.

All Celtic socieites from Spain to Turkey, from Italy to Scotland, had Druids. They were in power from before 1000BC until around 600AD.

The Druidic Celtic faith was comparable to Hinduism: multiple gods, each representing an aspect of the Supreme Being (Anna or Rhiannon, the Divine Mother); life after death in a lovely Otherworld (Annwn) followed by reincarnation; all things are sacred and essentially living. Esoterically, their advanced initiates were meditating yogis. They had a taboo on writing anything sacred down.

Their principal festivals were Beltane (a fire rite and fertility festival held on the night of April 30/May 1) marking the start of summer; and Samhain (pronounced Sow-in to rhyme with "cow in") on October 31/November 1 to mark the start of winter.

Long ago, they were "magical" in that they had, apparently, powers such as to cause a mist to hide their king's soldiers from his enemies, to shape-shift, and to cause a person to die by cursing them.

There are modern Druids in Britain and America who, some more authentically than others, recreate and live the faith the ancient Druids oversaw.

Modern druids are followers of the druidic or "pagan' religion, and they have been known to do energy work and have occult-driven pasttimes.

Druids were a very mysterious group of people that existed 3-8,000 years ago on the british isles among other places. Not much is known about the original religion or culture because they were pretty much wiped out by the saxons/romans/christians and didn't record their history (as the assryians, greeks, egyptians, mayans, or aztecs did)
Its generally accepted that they were worshippers of nature and had a lot of respect for the earth, though rumor has it they did practice human sacrifice. I'm not sure if this was ever proven, though.

yes they're magical and no they are not a type of sprite. They are men who are able to work magical potions together and incantations. Much like Male witch docters.
