Working at a dead end job usually means that you are not paid very well. I was in that situation but I had known that I was going to go to college so coming from experience, make sure you get an education. Get a GED at the least if you already don't have a high school degree.

Keep your job to keep paying bills. Maybe take night classes or find a job in the field that you like. Do a search on the internet about what the hottest jobs are. Look inside yourself and think about what you like to do. Do you like working with people, computers, etc. Some companies even will pay for credit classes for any employee. Get a job there in an entry position to get your foot in the door and get your education paid for. Take night or part time classes.

If you do not have the patience, apply for financial aid and/or student loans and get your degree. If you can, volunteer or intern in the field you like so you can get some experience. Good luck.

Depending upon their job qualifications, I would recommend that while working at their dead end job, they start applying for jobs that sound more enjoyable to them. After all, unless a person is independently wealthy, they will work for a living until their 60s so they may as well enjoy what they do.

Join the military. That will straighten you out. You will suddenly find a zest for life and realize that there is a world of opportunity out there.
You will have money for college and realize how much you loved your dead end job and boring life.

Many school districts and community colleges offer adult continuing education classes. Look for a class dealing with career exploration to find out what you might want to do. If you cannot find classes like this. Go to your local library and ask the librarian to point out career exploration tools. Key word career exploration on the Internet and see what comes up. When you decide on what you want to do, apply for financial aid or pay as you go to continue your education. Look in your want ads for entry level jobs that might lead to a career ladder.

work to live, not live to work. seek a more fulfilling job, better to look while you are employed. look into community college classes to gain knowledge in areas of interest, being hobby or classes to further knowledge in areas of employment. these classes are generally low cost and allow you to network with other people. you may find opportunities you won't find in classifieds.

One obvious choice is the Armed Forces Reserves.
You don't commit full-time and the career paths from that are worth it. They pay for everything.
All you have to worry about is not dying when they send you to a conflict hot-spot.
