All religion aside, if God exists beyond the confines of Scriptural texts of any and all kinds, could it be that it was He that put the universe in motion? For all science has to say about everything that has happened AFTER the universe became something, even the most logical mind has to say that something had to start it. The one thing believers in God and believers in Science can agree upon is that the universe had to come from something. Neither side can tangibly prove their claim, but it appears that only one side doesn't side step the issue all together. Why can't God and Science go hand in hand, putting religion to the side as it was, in fact, created by Man?

As a mater of a fact God = science. The more you learn the more you believe in the creator.

A major part of the problem here is that underlying the culture that developed out of Greek thinking (Western culture), there is the assumption that everything has a cause. This idea is so ingrained in our thinking that to suggest otherwise is to risk being called mad, but the idea of causality is still just an idea, an assumption. Science is based on the idea of causality (the cause comes before and is the same nature as the effect).

If you now bring god (an admittedly imaginary being with no evidence of existence) into the picture, and apply the idea of causality, you ask the question: Did god cause the universe? And some people then add, Who caused god? Now, a problem here is that "god" is imaginary, or if you want to believe otherwise, god is a spirit, not a material, physical being like the universe. How can a non-material being cause a material universe? These are two different things, and the idea that god caused the universe is a mistaken notion because it violates the law of causality (cause must be like the effect). This con-fusion of joining two incompatible things together is due not to science, but to religion or religious people who try to apply an assumption of science to god.

I think you are wrong in saying that both science and religion agree that the universe had to come from something, had to start. Why could the universe not be everlasting, eternal, never starting and never-ending? Only because of an assumption (that is unprovable) that everything must have a cause. Maybe everything in the universe has a cause, but the universe itself does not.

Deep man, deep.

There are a zillion reasons. For one thing, people who are very religious (normally) are raised that way and if not, then they probably have a good reason for being so. And, as you said, neither side can prove anything.

Also, anyone immature enough to argue about it thinks that scientists are going to burn in hell for all eternity and religious people are crazy fanatics.

"Science and religion don't contradict. They're just asking different questions. Science asks how, and religions asks why."

Mohammed E response was most accurate "
"THE GREAT GOD create every thing
HE deliver some of his knowledge to his creatures
THE GREAT GOD is the source of all knowledge"

Humans often times of remind me of little children who after going to school for a short time, discover that their parent(s) do not know something of the little, they just learned. The children become arrogant regarding the little bit of knowledge acquired.

The shift of authorative reference shifts from the Parent to teachers, peers, or those recommended by them.

As Humans many of us are credulent, naive, misinformed marks, awaiting for a wolf dressed in sheeps clothing.

Our current society has progresses in the art of creating the sense of urgency within a multitude of individuals. A sense of urgency that confuses us to taking the most expedient answer, instead of throughly exploring the depth of a matter, so that the proper questions can be answered, to formulate a premise to conclusion.

Like the little children, we forget that our work is to learn, exercise and discipline the mind to this end. We are not suppose to know everything in a world that is dynamic rather than static.

Many of us have not taken the time to examine ourselves or what religion is or should be. Instead, we shackle ourselves to the notions of others, regarding these matters. We surrender the authority to think for ourselves. We forget that form does indeed follow function. without the function there can be no form.

Garfield response: "Moreover, I believe all religion is true, minus the specific details that distinguish them " Rings true, in that he sees the unity of God, through the inherent unity of relgion.

Consider that if geological time was presented in a one hour movie, all of Human history would not be more than the last few minutes of the movie. That include all the wars recorded and unrecorded, building of the pyramaids, the rise & fall of various empires, etc. Insects, vegetation, reptiles fish, bacteria, other mammals, and a hot of other creatures have more history than Humans. We are the newcomers, babies or at best pre -adolescent.

Babies need guidance.

I believe in the power of prayer and that there are many forms of prayer. One form of prayer is adjectival. For instance, "Why" and "How" are two of the most powerful prayers. The Answerer of Prayers is one of the attributes of the Creator of all things. One of the things created is the mind. Others include the universe, brain, all things, known and yet to be discovered.

When we ask the "why" or "how," we are petitioning the All Knowing Entity who created knowledge, set forth laws of physics, created science to exerxise our immature brains and minds: answers with proportion to our understanding. Understanding is dificult for Humans, we tend to be a little thick.

I think differently. Overall, you say everything is created by God or Man. Now i say, everything is created by Ghost. God is bad, Ghost is good. There is only one Ghost. It's omnipresent and omnipotent. The Bible, the Gita and other religious books are fake and written by Man, not God or Ghost. You can't see Ghosts as you can't see Gods. You think you can feel God. I think i can feel Ghost. You say God is present in you. I say Ghost is present in me. So you're God and i'm Ghost. And according to my explanation, God=Ghost. So you may be Ghost and i might be God.
Hence proved, there is no Ghost and no God. Or i must say, there exists both Ghost and God.
