A credit card company sued me because I couldnt pay. Now they put a bank levy on my bank account and took all my money. And they wont negotiate with me. I tried to already. (actually I tried to negotiate with the creditor before it got to this point too) (I owed $1200 now they want $2500 from me)

I'll bet that you neither responded to the suit nor showed up in court to defend yourself. Right? They got a default judgement and a levy on your bank accounts. They have no incentive to negotiate with you now. IMHO, you got off cheap.

The only way to stop any further levys is to file bankruptcy. But if that's your only debt and you have a job you probably won't be eligible for that.

It's hindsight now, but you should have been in credit counselling as soon as you were 30 days past due. THAT was the time to work on the problem; it's way too late now to cry foul.

BTW, don't bother putting any money in another bank account. They'll probably get a levy on that too. Most likely they'll go for a garnishment of your wages next.

You can't. They get a judgement from the courts and the courts order the bank to give them the money....and there is nothing you or the bank can do about it. I've had that happen, too. Luckily for me, it was a mistake and the money was returned, but if it hadn't been a mistake, that money would've just been gone. I eventaully had to file for bankruptcy.

to really mess with them, i've heard of people writing them $.01 checks. They have to take b/c literally.. you are a Paying toward the debt. So just send them $.01 every month for the next 24 months. They'll get the idea. One of my friends said it made them really mad and they just turned the collection bill over to a collection agency. And collection agency was fine with .01 a month. Legally they were "making payment" toward the loan.

Do that until you get another lump sum of money to pay off the debt in full.

just don't put any more money into your bank account, and open a new bank account with another bank.
