Because chaos, as you put it, is preferrable to the alternative, which is calm and peace of mind. Most people, especially today, live in chaos, conflict, a state of flux...but you may not be identifying it as such. For example, those who use drugs or alcohol or who devote themselves to organized religious activities or who are materialistic or are divorced or are...(fill in the blanks)....and those countries that are at war...and those social groups that target other social groups...these are all examples of chaos, and/or behaviors reflecting underlying chaos and, as such, most everyone lives in chaos.
It's not that people thrive on chaos. It's that they cannot handle contemplation of their own finite, meaningless existence. This is a terrifying, horrible thought, so scary, in fact, that people will stop at nothing, what you refer to as chaos, to distract themselves from ever being at rest enough to contemplate their own reality. If people are able to fill their lives with drama and sitraction and noise and...then they never have to face what truly terrifies them...which by definition, then, is much less preferrable in actuality than the chaos you see around you.

The first answer is definitely wrong. I would know I see a counseling on a regular basis and I am a person who prefers chaos over stability. And it has nothing to do about fearing death or my existence. It has to do alot with how people are raised. I was raised in a chaotic house when I was young. I moved around alot, I had a mentality unstable father, etc. So when you become an adult you feel uncomfortable with stability, because your not use to it. Human want what they are familiar with. Same reason why women who have abusive parents are statistically more likely to date/marry an abusive man.

I disagree with the unkind things that some have said. It probably ‘is’ a chemical quirk and peace is probably a place they would like to live in but do not know how. ADD, depression, post traumatic shock, anxiety disorders etc. People often deal with these problems and yet they so often spend their life ‘trying’ to get organized only to find that they have messed everything up again – even their precious relationships. That sounds like a life of extreme frustration to me.
We would be more compassionate if we were not so quick to condemn such individuals and tried to empathize more. It must be difficult having most of the world annoyed with you every day of your life – not to mention that they must endure those ones who take it upon themselves to lecture and scold them as if they were children. I truly to not believe that it is as fun for them as we think it is.

Everybody has a chaos level,it has a lot to do with the way we were raised. If a persons need for it is not happening, they will create it,this can be very distressing to friends or a partner, particularly if they dont understand what is realy going on.It shouldn't be taken personally though, its the rs, not yours.Do you wont to be around this person? well it depends on your chaos level....Boe Boe.

I truly believe it is a sickness sort of like a
chemical imbalance.I know someone who loves to terrorize people and stir up problems. And he loves it when you argue back with him.It almost seems as if it gives him an erection when he sees that he has started an argument and got someone upset. The truth is some people are just so miserable with their lives that they have fun starting **** and causing trouble for others.
And they will do it on a daily basis.

Some people live off of stress. If they don't have something to stress out about, or worry about they're generally depressed people. My mom's life used to center around stress. Now, she's a lot better than she used to be.

They don't have real goals. They can immerse themselves in drama to avoid actually progressing in life. They also love attention and many times, sympathy. That's my take on it.
