A PORCUPINE? Are you serious? Unless that echidna is from the planet Krypton, there is no way its going to puncture a car tire, much less two, unless the car is maufactured by Matchbox, Hot Wheels, or Tonka. Furthermore, echidna are very rare animals - a team of biologists searched over 300 hours to find their first one. An adult Echidna grows to maybe the size of a human baby.... I'm not even sure running over one with a BICYCLE would puncture a tire, forget about a car.
Also, how is it he could call a tow truck but not home? I suppose he called the tow truck, waited around for it to come and then after they had driven out of signal range, it occurs to him to call home? Please. And the tow truck had to go an HOUR to another town, never mind he lives less than 20 minutes (if he was between the restaurant and home and the restaurant was 20 minutes from home, then he must have been less than 20 minutes from there)? Your sister is far too guillable for her own good- I could rip galactic holes through that guy's story.
If I were her I'd want to see the two tires punctured from the echidna, the two new tires on the car, the receipt from the towing company, the cell phone log for the call to the towing company, the spot where the accident occurred, the dead echidna or the blood stains where he ran it over, and I'd want to ask the tow truck driver and the auto repair men if they could confirm this.
Porcupines!

My sister-in-law has accepted apologies from her husband for cheating on her 4 DIFFERENT TIMES.

Each time she tells the family that "he is truly sorry" and "will never do it again". She had her 2nd child with him after he had done this twice and they just had their third child and she got pregnant after the 4th confession.

It's not about whether his story is believable or not. It is your sister's (and my sister-in-law's) desire to stay in the marriage. Challenging his BS story would mean creating a confrontation, disturbing the peace in the house, and potentially jeopardizing the marriage. She obviously doesn't want to do that.

Be careful about attempting to burst your sister's bubble. My husband made one attempt to confront his sister about the fantasy world in which she lives and her reaction was to shut the family out and her jerk of a husband got even more power over her.

The car better have 2 new tires. It's such a bad story tho, I'm almost tempted to believe it. I bet the guy didn't even get laid or anything. He probably had a couple of drinks after work and a couple more...

ok, if his mobile phone was out of range; why didn't he try to use a land line phone or a pay phone?!
I think your sister doesn't want any trouble with her husband, so she believes what he says. If her husband got 2 tires replaced ... have your sister ask about a receipt (he must have paid to get them replaced)

She need to open her eyes. If his cell didn't work, there must have been a phone somewhere. Why would they tow him to a little town an hour away. It all sounds to weird for me.

sounds like a little bit of a story to me but she obviously really trusts him. I would have asked him if there weren't any other phones he could have used to call home.

i say tell her to call the towing company and ask. and also have him show her the receipt. if he doesn't have it, kick him to the curb. (you could even beat him a bit for hurting your sister, if you want. i know i would)
good luck,
~Carrie

Sounds like you really care for your sister. however you should not encourage her to not trust her husband. there is truth in the saying that "ignorance is bliss"

Tell her to check the car out to see if his story checks out.
