Picking up that first drink, which in time led to that first joint
which in turn led to that first hit of acid which in turn led to that first line of coke,etc.etc.etc.
Do not be fooled children, that first beer or shot is the gateway drink
or gateway shot. Don't think it wont happen to you because it can and more often than not it will.
One more thing, Thinking you can stop anytime you want is a LIE.
Your lieing to yourself, and if you are not honest with yourself you can't be honest with others.
Peace

I'll go with the cliche answer...
At 5'-9" and 175lbs, I wasn't very tall but I was strong and fast. I began playing basketball at age 11 and idolized Air Jordan since I saw my first Bulls game in the late 80's. I became a little bit zealous and covered all 4 walls of my room with pictures, posters, clippings, etc. I was inspired by his work ethic and I practiced EVERY day unless I was ill and I took 100 free throw shots before going in the house. Subsequently, I became a great shooter. (think Reggie Miller)
I made the Junior High team and J.V. once I got to HS and was one of the local "stars" at the park where I played. I was a 92% free throw shooter and 71% from 3-point range which made me an asset on the court. I was all prepped to go senior year and was expecting a partial scholarship to University of Florida when I busted my right ankle in a pickup game in mid August. I was blowing past my defender when he stepped on my right foot as I was crossing over and my foot remained straight while my body went left. I had a grapfruit for a leg for about 3 weeks, then hobled on crutches.
The season started in October but I was on crutches until the end of November. After that I was in rehab twice a week but was slower and had less vertical leap. That season sucked and we barely made it into the last tourney of the season. Needless to say, I got no scholarship. The tourney was held at a local community college and the coach was watching and saw me hit two 3 pointers in the 4th quarter. He wanted me to try out. I did, and made first cut but ran out of $$$ before I could make the team and had to drop out.
If I could go back, I'd stay home that Saturday and play in my backyard instead of at the park so my ankle wouldn't have been busted and I could have gone on to play in college and maybe the Pro's. I used to think about that a lot, but not anymore. So yeah, that's what I'd do. :)

I would have listened to my parents and went to college instead of getting married at 17 and wanting kids, a white picket fence, and happily everafter. Didn't work out the way I'd hoped. I don't have a college education and have learned that the white picket fence and happily everafter doesn't happen very often.

Nothing, because I really don't want to accidentally open up some variant of the grandfather or predestination paradox.
Think of my poor biographers. D:
