RESPECT

Marriage is a give and take union. Don't get caught up in thinking that what you want out of it is more important than what your partner wants.

Find some common interests.
The "sympatico" you find mentally can be more rewarding than physical pleasures.

Find a way to add humor without degrading the other party. Laughter is a great factor in togetherness.

Other things of note:

Women should initiate physical contact too! Don't be afraid to express desire for your mate.

Don't get complacent. My wife has "let herself go" (she was 127lbs. in college and now pushes 190, and we have no kids) and I have a difficult time making love to her because of all the weight (I have maintained myself over the same period..Still have the 30" waist I had when in my 20s). Sex can become a chore when you are not physically attractive to your partner.

I don,t think there is any perfect or particular way to maintain a happy married life but if there is real love behind the marriage then no one can break it.

I have learned that you have to compromise on things that truly don't matter that much to you. Have to communicate and work through the problems, focus only on each other and your family. Dont think that if you have a bad day you think you should cheat on him or her. Just always be open and honest. I have been married for 3 years and we have our battles but would not change anything for the world.

Love each other. Trust each other. Do not believe others. Lead a happy life as married life is based on mutual trust and love.

Learn to except the things you can't stand or dislike about each other. Understand that you cannot change a person. You have to somehow appreciate the differences in each other. Know that what you see is what you get. Period. If you don't like it now, you definitely won't like it 20 years from now.

sex is a "luxury". If you wait for happiness in someone else, you will always be disappointed. Be happy with who you are.Let the other person be happy with you and you with that person.
Married life?...be ready for some work, joy, love, passion, laughter, etc. Just be yourself and let the other person be themself.
