Around this time of year, local school districts have auctions for all their accumulated surplus stuff, like chairs, tables, and VOILA! old chalkboards. Basically, classrooms are moving towards white boards (all that chalk dust). Just call local school districts and ask -- it may take you talking to a few people before you find the mother lode. What you are essentially looking for is a school undergoing some sort of renovation. In large districts, it's easier and more routine, so you might want to start there -- however, with large districts it will take you a while to find the person who keeps the list (if they even do so) of what they have in surplus right then. Good luck!

Did you know you can make one really easy. Just get a very large sheet of plywood and frame it up with some cheap trim wood. You can buy "chalkboard" paint to coat the plywood and then it will be a chalkboard. That's the best way to get a really large one. They can cost of lot of money otherwise.

Cant answer directly but to let you know, there is such a thing as chaulkboard paint. You can paint it on any surface and make a chulkboard. People use the paint to re-surface old chaulkboards, but you can paint it on anything.
